Application engineering

Fastener, screw & nut feeding systems designed for your production line.

Separate and present screws, nuts, washers, pins, rivets and inserts to automated drivers, presses, robots and assembly stations.

Application overview

How are fasteners, screws & nuts fed automatically?

Fastener feeding must control shank, head, thread and orientation while preventing tangles, doubles and queue lock-up. The final interface may be a precision pick point, escapement, feed tube or insertion tool.

Typical components

Map the full product family before selecting equipment.

Include all variants expected during the project life, not only the easiest or highest-volume component. Even small changes in geometry, material or surface finish can alter flow and orientation.

Feeding options

Feeding methods we would consider.

We confirm the final approach using your production parts and required output.

Bowl feeding

Dedicated orientation for stable screw, nut and insert geometries.

Step feeding

Useful to assess for longer bolts, pins and components prone to tangling.

Escapement tooling

Separates one fastener at a defined datum for pick-up or transfer.

Engineering risks

Details that determine production reliability.

Tangling and bridging

Long shanks, open features and mixed sizes can create unpredictable bulk behaviour.

Thread protection

Contact surfaces and recirculation should avoid thread damage or contamination.

Tool interface

Blow feed, pick presentation and direct insertion each require different end tooling.

Typical project sequence

From bulk product to controlled presentation.

Verify

Verify the complete fastener family and reject mixed or damaged samples.

Select

Select a bulk and orientation principle that controls tangling.

Establish

Establish head-first, shank-first or pick-face presentation.

Buffer

Buffer the accepted queue without thread interlock.

Singulate

Singulate and confirm one component at the tool interface.

Integrated parts feeding systems in an automation workshop
A complete project may combine bulk storage, orientation, inspection, buffering, singulation and controls.
Integration scope

Design the feeder and process machine as one operating sequence.

The technical interface should define discharge datum, available space, machine demand, queue capacity, low-level warning, ready/fault signals, reject handling and operator recovery.

Application FAQ

Fasteners, screws & nuts feeding questions.

Can screws be blow-fed through a tube?

Suitable screws can be separated and transferred pneumatically, but geometry, length-to-diameter ratio, head shape and required insertion orientation must be assessed.

How are two screws prevented from entering together?

Mechanical escapement geometry, sensors and transfer timing are combined to isolate and confirm one fastener.

Can oily fasteners be fed?

Potentially, but oil changes friction and can contaminate tracks and sensors. The actual production condition should be included in trials and maintenance planning.

Can different screw lengths share one feeder?

Compatible sizes may use adjustable tooling or change parts. The risk of mixed fasteners and incorrect recipe selection should also be addressed.

What samples are required?

Representative fasteners across normal dimensional, finish and supplier variation are preferable to a small batch of visually identical parts.

Need help choosing the right feeder?

Send a part photo or drawing, the target rate and the required orientation. We will recommend the most suitable starting point.
